YOGA VINE PARTNERSHIP WITH SEED
The daily lives for many young women in Africa are overwhelming. Nearly 2.5 million children are orphaned to AIDS, leaving many teenage girls bearing the responsibility of supporting and heading the household. Many are forced to drop out of high school, limiting their opportunities and future prospects.
Young girls are also at high risk of teenage pregnancy, sexual assault and HIV infection. Gender inequality is rife, and the documented rate of sexual violence is amongst the highest in the world. South African police report that a woman is raped every 36 seconds, and it is estimated that only 1 in 4 rapes will be reported.
With these kind of statistics it is easy for young girls to lose hope, feeling powerless and fearful about what the future may hold.
Education and support is needed to change this narrative for future generations of women. Empowering young girls to feel a sense of internal strength, resilience and worth while equipping them with useable, transformative health and life skills is critical to rewriting Africas future.
SEED is a holistic wellness + education camp teaching life skills to teenage girls in Soweto, Johannesburg. The Yoga Vine is partnering with SEED to bring Yoga to these camps and this April, KATE and JULES are heading to Soweto to start up the Yoga and Wellness program.
